Spring is a primary season for allergy issues. With blooming flowers, budding grass, etc., it’s no wonder you and/or those around you are stuck with irritated eyes, runny nose, and uncontrollable sneezing. With spring comes pollen; there’s really no escape for allergy sufferers in this season.

The most common culprits for allergy issues, especially during the spring, are pollen, grass, and ragweed. These are some of the harshest seasonal allergies amongst all seasons, but they are most prevalent in the spring. There are ways that you can try to reduce your risk of allergen exposure without the use of medication:

Plan any outdoor activity around pollens “schedule.” Pollen count is typically highest in early morning and evening hours.

Avoid exposure to fresh cut grass. Yes, it may smell amazing, but you’ll pay for it later with itchy eyes and a runny nose.

Keep pollen out of your home! An easy way to do this is to keep windows closed and use ceiling fans and air conditioners. This may cost you on your energy bills, but the cost of your allergy suffering may be much higher.

If these suggestions don’t work, or they are just not for you, you should look into medical remedies for allergies. Your doctor or specialist can prescribe antihistamines and/or decongestants to help ease the pain. There are an increasing number of medications on the market now that prevent the usual drowsiness that comes along with antihistamines. You should check your health insurance policy to make sure that your allergy medications will be covered. Most basic allergy medications are covered on typical health insurance plans, but every insurance company is different.
